IEC 61375 Train Inauguration

In real circumstances of train operation, changing the train composition and orientation of Consists is a common operation. To ensure the interoperability between onboard systems, IEC 61375 has defined a standard Train Communication Network (TCN) implementation.

The TCN defined in IEC 61375 sets the basis for interoperability between trains by defining how the Backbone Network should be implemented. The purpose of the Backbone Network is to transmit information through the entire train; by means of a specific protocol, such information defines the train composition and the orientation of each consist (Train Inauguration). 

Moreover, the IEC 61375 defines the application profiles of the TCN in order to achieve communication between software applications throughout consist networks and the train backbone.

  3. Standard TTDP (Train Topology Discovery Protocol) - According to IEC 61375-2-5. It defines the common rules to discover the active Train Composition, configure the Train Data Communication System based on ethernet technology and automatically set up the IPv4 network.
  4. Standard IEC 61375-2-3 TCN Communication Profile defines the standard interfaces of the Train Communication Network (TCN) to achieve data exchange between software applications throughout the Consist networks and guarantee communication interoperability across the entire ETB (Ethernet Train Backbone).
  5. Standard TRDP (Train Real Time Data Protocol) - According to IEC 61375-2-3 is an open network protocol for applications’ communication over IP-based networks on rail vehicles.
